St. Joseph's is the parish church of the district of Longsight, in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Salford. A mission was established in 1888 in the chapel of the St. Joseph's RC Industrial schools. The present church opened in May 1915 but was remodeled in 1969.
The first two volumes of the baptism registers for St.
Joseph's cover the period from the establishment of the mission in 1888 up to 1910.
Members of the Irish Ancestry Branch of Manchester & Lancashire FHS have, by kind permission of the Diocese, transcribed details of the 1,482 baptisms recorded in the registers.
The transcript on CDROM provides full details as contained in the register and is accompanied by an index to the 5,934 names of children, parents and godparents which appear in the entries. Scanned images of the registers concerned are also included.
