Rochdale people have good reason to be proud of the fact that theirs was the town in which modern Co-operative trading finally got off the ground as an efficient and profitable enterprise. The movement which started here formed an essential part of the British labour movement for a century and a half as well as giving inspiration and guidance to similar movements throughout the world.  The contents include:  From Market to Mill Town,  Churches and Chapels, Bread Riots and Shuttle Gathering, Midnight Mischief,  The Charter, The Whole Charter and Nothing But The Charter,  “Anthenian Democracy”, Owenites and Socialists –  Towards A Co-operative Commonwealth.  Well illustrated with over 40 pictures and drawings. 
There is a list of some of the Rochdale Pioneers, most of them were weavers.. Also there are notes on each of the contents, plus a bibliography of all the sources use in this book.
