Holy Name of Jesus, Chorlton-on-Medlock: 1868-1919
The mission of the Holy Name, Manchester was established in the Chorlton on Medlock / Greenheys area in 1868 by the Jesuit Fathers. The magnificent church was erected 1872-73 to the designs of JA Hansom, with the tower being added in 1912. The Jesuits left Manchester in 1989 selling the presbytery and church halls, the church however was saved by the Fathers of the Oratory, and the Jesuits have recently returned
