I Belong to Bolton

I Belong to Bolton by Norman Kenyon.
Normans first book is about his growing up from childhood. He begins by tracing
his childhood near the Royal Infirmary, Chorley Street in Bolton referring to places and events as he travels around. He mentions Booths Foundary, the River Croal, schoolboy days. The first year of his working life, and at the age of 14 was spent at a soap works in Blundell Street, working 46 and a half hours a week received the sum of seven shillings, out of which his mother gave him six pence for spends. Further on
as he travels around he describes the events that took place mentioning the names of the people he knew and the work they did. In Velvet Walks was said to have connection with a Jeremiah Clarke, who supposed to have been the inventor of cotton velvet. On a Saturday morning Duke’s Alley at the rear of the Kings Arms was bustling with activity where rolls of curtain material was being unloaded. There was fishing on the Manchester, Bolton & Bury canal and various games mentioned that were played. Well illustrated with over 40 photographs of streets, buildings, people, family, etc.32pp. A4.
