The records on this CD give snapshots of the population of the Oldham area at various dates from the Restoration to the dawn of the Victorian era, Over a century and a half Oldham evolved from a village in the foothills of the Pennines in 1681 (the time of the first database) into a bustling town in 1829 (the time of the last database). The industrial revolution was about to turn the town into one of the most important centres of the cotton industry.
